Additional refrigerant charge calculator

Find how many ounces and grams to add when the line set is longer than the factory charge covers.

What this means

The factory charge typically covers a specified line set length. This calculator estimates the additional refrigerant for length beyond that allowance using the charge rate you enter. The presets are typical R-410A liquid line rates only. Use the installation manual's allowance and rate, and check any long line requirements before charging.

Formula used

  • Extra length (ft) = max(0, total line set length − length covered by factory charge)
  • Additional charge (oz) = extra length × charge rate (oz/ft)
  • Additional charge (g) = ounces × 28.3495
  • Additional charge (lb) = ounces ÷ 16
