4 to 20 mA and 0 to 10 V signal scaling

Convert a 4 to 20 mA, 0 to 10 V or 2 to 10 V signal to engineering units and back, with a live slider and custom ranges.

What this means

Analog sensors and actuators map a signal range to a measurement range in a straight line. Knowing what the signal should be lets you check a transmitter or an actuator with a meter: if the reading at the controller does not match the field device, check wiring, the input configuration and the sensor range.

Formula used

  • Value = min + (signal − signal min) ÷ (signal max − signal min) × (max − min)
  • Signal = signal min + (value − min) ÷ (max − min) × (signal max − signal min)
