Gas meter clocking calculator

Time one revolution of the test dial, enter the dial size and the heating value from your gas utility, and compare actual input with the appliance rating.

What this means

Clocking the meter measures how much gas the appliance actually burns. Turn off every other gas appliance on the meter, time the test dial, and compare the result with the nameplate input. A large difference can point to wrong manifold pressure, wrong orifices or the wrong heating value.

Formula used

  • BTU/h = (3600 ÷ seconds per revolution) × dial size (ft³) × heating value (Btu/ft³)
  • Difference % = (measured − rated) ÷ rated × 100
