Fan laws calculator

Predict new airflow, static pressure and horsepower when you change fan speed, using the fan affinity laws.

What this means

Airflow changes in direct proportion to fan speed, pressure with the square, and power with the cube. A 10% speed increase means about 33% more horsepower. Check the motor's rated horsepower and amps before speeding up a fan.

Formula used

  • CFM2 = CFM1 × (RPM2 ÷ RPM1)
  • SP2 = SP1 × (RPM2 ÷ RPM1)²
  • HP2 = HP1 × (RPM2 ÷ RPM1)³
