Belt and pulley calculator

Solve driven RPM, driver RPM or sheave diameter from the other three values, and estimate belt length from center distance.

What this means

The speed ratio between two sheaves equals the inverse of their pitch diameter ratio. A smaller driver sheave or a larger driven sheave slows the fan. Belt length is an approximation for an open two sheave drive; confirm with the belt manufacturer and leave room for tension adjustment.

Formula used

  • Driven RPM = driver RPM × driver pitch diameter ÷ driven pitch diameter
  • Belt length L = 2C + 1.57 × (D + d) + (D − d)² ÷ (4C)
  • D = large pitch diameter, d = small pitch diameter, C = center distance
